| A message from the Dean, medical school |
|
Our Kochi Medical School is located at the base of the Shikoku Mountains
at Kacho Heiya (field). To the east of the school can be found the ruins
of the mountain castle of Chosokabe Motochika, who was responsible for
unifying Shikoku during the Warring States Period. Even further to the
east, forming an almost perfect straight line stretching from west to east
as if in representation of the flow of history, lies the ruins of buildings
belonging to Ki-no-Tsurayuki protector of the nation during the Heian Period.
But the history of our medical school is, comparatively speaking, not too
long. Our present medical school developed from the Kochi Medical University,
established in 1976 as an independent medical school. The ideals of compassion
for others and the search for the truth formed the motivation for our founding,
and based on these it has been our philosophy to turn out medical professionals
with a human touch, and to work as a medical institution in close connection
with the local community. In order to realize our ideals, we have set up
and implemented eight educational goals. During this time, we have established
the Medical Graduate School in 1984, the Nursing Course, Medical School
in 1998, the Nursing Course(Master's Course), Medical Graduate School in
2002 and the Medical Science Course(Master's Course), Medical Graduate
School in 2003. Further, in October 2003, we merged with the old Kochi
University to become one of the five Schools of the new Kochi University.
In April 2004, we were incorporated, along with all other national universities
in Japan, to become the Kochi University Medical School. The above has
been a history of 28 years of the development of our school. Once becoming incorporated, while we have continued to adhere to the great traditions that we cultivated as a medical university, we have also moved to dramatically alter our systems and curriculum, and to foster a unique institution, all staff members, and all students of the School have been devoting themselves, as part of their own activities, to all aspects of the educational, research-related, local area and international-relations aspects of the School's activities.
The School organization and activity contents are explained in outline on this home page. We would appreciate hearing your comments and impressions concerning our School and its activities as they are communicated through this homepage.
