| III. Activity in Matadi-city, Province of Bas-Congo. |
On November2, 2009 two members of the N.G.O. LIPS and I have visited the city of Matadi in order to attend the conference on
Hygiene and Health: the Need to Reduce the Incidence of Needlestcik Injuries and Bloodborne viral infection in Congolese Hospitals.
We were welcomed by Professor Anselme Mbenza and his staff from the Economy and Trade university in Matadi. Prof. Mbenza was in the
organizing committee of the conference together with local chapter of WHO and the medical authorities of the province. After the meeting with
Prof. Mbenza, we were received by the Mayor of Matadi-city in His office and shared about our activities and projects, and also the possibility to
Establish sister cities relationship with the Nankoku-city in Kochi prefecture, Japan. The conference took place on November3, 2009 in the conference
hall of WHO /Bas-Congo. More than 80 participants from hospitals and universities attended actively and showed their interest in the speech.
After the presentation, many participants requested that more action be done in hospitals to mobilize the HCWs and health policy makers, even start the
survey there, too. Professor Anselme Mbenza did his best, giving the opportunity to stay at the University guest-house together with 2 LIPS staffs. |

On October 26, Prof. Situakibanza, Prof. Suganuma and I had a short meeting in the University hospital about NSI study. Prof Situakibanza
wanted to have money in order to mobilize his assistants in the survey activity. Despite the explanation given by Prof Suganuma, he insisted that
we should think about those who have to sacrifice their academical tasks in order to get involved in the study project. I and LIPS president arranged to find some money that was given to Prof Situakibanza on Monday, October 27: |
|
- 350 USD for the supervisor;
- 1200 USD for the surveyors (his collaborators);
- 150 USD for ethical committee (paid by Prof Suganuma).
Sub-total: 1700USD. |
|
Unfortunately, the president of ethical committee wanted me to go back
to Kinshasa and explain about the study project, and when I went back to
Kinshasa on October 31, he already traveled to Nairobi. With Prof. Situakibanze and LIPS, we agreed to conduct the survey in one teaching hospital
Of Matadi in Bas-congo, together with Prof. Anselme Mbenza , the hospital’s administrator and director. |
